Now, I'm no hairy legged 70's style feminist (I'm a lipstick feminist who l-o-v-e-s men), but when Paul Gipson, a local North Carolina labor leader, introduced Hillary today at a rally saying that she has the kind of “testicular fortitude" labor needs in order to get NAFTA ammended, he struck an extremely sour note with me (and my girl-friends). His exact quote follows:
“I truly believe that that’s going to take an individual that has testicular fortitude,” he said. “That’s exactly right. That’s what we gotta have.”I have no problem getting behind N.C. Gov. Mike Easley(D) with his comment yesterday that Hillary's determination makes "Rocky Balboa look like a pansy.” Thats true, and not patronizing. Whether you love her of hate her (I'm leaning more towards hate), you gotta admit that this girl is a fighter. But to say that we as women need to "grow a pair" to get things done is absolutely insulting.
Though she won't get my vote, I have to tip my hat to Hillary for setting Gipson straight with the following:
“I must say, Paul, I appreciate that endorsement. It means a lot to me,” she said. “I do think I have fortitude. Women can have it as well as men.” Sphere: Related Content
