Johnny McSame used to present himself as someone who took great relish in railing against the absurdity evident in the through the looking-glass reasoning of George W. Bush and his half-witted minions. Then in 2000, the GOP handed his head to him in South Carolina and Johnny decided to venture through the looking glass himself...abandoning all pretense of reason for sycophancy and the promise of power.
Nowhere is Johnny's journey into the GOP twilight zone more evident than in his criticism of Barack Obama's plan make the necessary corrections to the fiscally ahistoric and irresponsible Bush II tax cuts for the wealthy at a time of war-- the very tax cuts which have turned the the robust middle class of the Clinton Administration into the dying and besieged working and middle classes of a dark Bush/McCain 2008 economic reality.
Once the healthy backbone of the American economy, the shrinking middle-class has fallen victim to the McBushenomics redistribution of wealth upward, through which the greatest disparity in wealth between the super-rich and everyone else since Great Depression has been created in less than eight years.
You see, while Johnny now opposes Obama's planned tax cuts for 95% for Americans and a return to Reagan era tax progressivity, in 2001 and 2003 John McCain not only supported what Obama now proposes, but railed loudly against the very same Bush II tax cuts he now seeks to extend and expand. In 2001 Johnny not only thought that Clinton's tax policy was fair, but that the wealthy should bear an even greater tax burden than they did under Wild Bill Clinton, and that the middle class should be the ones targeted to receive tax relief.
You see, McCranky was for Obama/Clinton tax policies, before he was against them and firmly believed that the Obama/Clinton approach was not only fair, but THE ONLY WAY way to assure the long term fiscal health of the country
Today however, John McCain sees the fiscal policies of the Reagan era and the hyper-economic-growth Clinton era as dangerous experiments in socialism (or even...gasp...Communism). Why, he says, should we abandon the wildly successful Bush II economic policies (heck...business at soup kitchens is booming!) in in favor of revisiting the horrors of the Clinton fiscal policies, which yielded unbearably good times and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. Why would anyone be crazy enough to settle for a return to Clinton's massive Federal Budget Surpluses when it is so clearly the case that continuing Bush's record breaking half-TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICITS are the path to a new American heyday!
Sure Ronald Reagan might have been a communist at heart, after all it is rumored that he tried to join the Communist party (and that they rejected him), but I had no idea that he was visiting a red-menace of his own upon 1980's America by signing into law a capital gains tax of 28% and signing off on the wildly Marxist tax policies of the Reagan/Bush I era!
And Bill Clinton...the 1990's...don't get me started. I think we all remember the sheer hell of rising wages, cheap gas, low inflation, and booming business (Damn you Robert Ruben!!). Thank the gods (you know...gods Greed and Power) for the enlightened approaches of the Bush/McCain era!
I think you'll find that it is possible to find McCain's plans sensible, but only if you are willing to stand with him, and view reality from through the Republican Looking glass. Yes, give yourself to the collective psychosis that characterizes Republican thinking and it all makes sense. Or not. Now, which pill was it...which one makes the Economy bigger and which one makes it smaller? Red? Blue?
Which one takes us to the reality of a brighter future and which one leads us down the same delusional Bush/McSame Rabbit Hole?
You already know the answer...

"The power to tax is the power to destroy." - Chief Justice John Marshall
I would like to agree with you... but I don't think it's this cut and dry, and I don’t think that Tax cuts can possibly effect the kind of reinvigoration that the US middle-class so desperately needs.
Have you read Piketty and Saez, 2003 The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Income Inequality in the United States, 1913–1998*? Income inequality, I would argue a better gauge of real income than any, only initially fell during the Clinton administration but resumed course. Statistics from the Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate declining real wages for the overwhelming majority of US “middle-income” earners for the past four decades.
McCain-Palin may sound disaster, but Obama may just spell ruin. Frankly, neither major party has restored, and I don’t think that either major party will restore the balance that FDR achieved. (I am beginning to think that they're in league.) Moreover, it will require more than a little bit of luck to re-achieve. (FDR was very nearly overthrown in a coup d’état.)
I wish that I could put my thoughts together like you. I agree wholeheartedly and love the way you write it out. Pure genius. Go Obama (am early voting tomorrow).
Already got my vote !!!
Here! Here! Another great post and another lame response by Paul at Paul's Health Blog...
Tax cuts? Obama isn't going to cut taxes, he's lying about that one! He will INCREASE taxes. How can 95% of working families get a tax cut when they don't all PAY taxes?
The Answer: He's going to TAKE money from us workers who DO pay taxes and GIVE IT TO THOSE WHO DON'T PAY TAXES. As in a check cut from the federal government.
That is socialism. That is UN-American.
A vote for Obama is a vote to destroy America.
Hey, Frigga,
Take a look at this CNN/Money article or this article at the Christian Science Monitor to get an idea of what Obama iis actually planning.
And consider: what will be the likely outcome of ten or twenty percent unemployment within a context of modern America. Do you think that "they" will go quietly into the night?
In the immortal words of Major General Smedley Darlington Butler, "If you don't hang together, you aren't worth a damn!" Get on the bus or get out of the street.
I wish I could believe that Obama was the Messiah like you do. It is funny how Democrats forget that the "booming" Clinton economy was starting to unravel before Bush was taking office and when 9/11 hit we were also weak economically. Bush hadn't been in office long enough to do any damage.
I hope you like the road to ruin we will be heading down if Obama wins. I just hope we are prepared for the worse.
Preston from New Jersey,
Okay, I confess.
I'm the one who stole your beloved Obama yard sign in the dark of the night.
I guess I should apologize. I didn't mean to make you cry.
Sincerely,
Just another lame reply from Paul at Paul's Health Blog...
It's interesting to note that some things are the same around the world, especially where politics are concerned.
The things you write here have a lot of similarities with what I wrote in my site about Malaysian politics.

I like your political passion, PolitiGal1. Although, in my view, it is a misdirected.
And if Barack Obama is indeed elected, it will not take long to find out what a mistake you made.
One thing I do agree, let's urge everyone to vote...
Have a terrific day.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment and a compliment, coming from Politigal, I consider it a sincere and worthwhile compliment, as I admire your blog and your writing abilities as well!
I'm not particularly partisan, in fact I truly rail against this old and outdated two party system of ours. But, I believe there is only ONE choice in this election, and that is OBAMA! He is the ONLY choice for any possible change. Unfortunately, until greed and rampant corruption cease to exist on a daily basis, I am afraid we're in for more of the same.
yo dawg
i feel u wit obamo
i cant wait to git teh white hourse
CRUNK
man i tired of the old white ppl man u know
oh ur a chick my bad boo
Nicely put. I think you have a few good points, especially about John McCain (who I voted for in 2000, by the way) abandoning his principles to become President. My wife and I think the Neocons convinced him the only way to win is by being more Bush than Bush; unfortunately it isn't working for him (or should I say fortunately ;) ). Great blog, keep up the good work!
A great blog! Love your writing style, you are very informed and quite clever.
And always remember:
'Friends don't let friends vote Republican!'
All the best,
Jane
Regardless of who is elected POTUS, he will have a monumentally difficult challenge on his hands with regard to the utter mess that Bush is leaving (gleefully no doubt) behind. Investment in infrastructure projects, I think, will be a prominent key to our future competitiveness and prosperity. From that perspective, I believe that BHO has a stronger position than his opponent.
came to drop an EC and stumbled to main page, which had never been stumbeled. Sort of a surprise that no one had done it.
Rock on Obama!
There is a question that I asked myself as I evaluated my choices: "Am I better off that I was four years ago?" And the answer was a resounding "No!" In fact, I'm not even as well off as I was four months ago. I fail to understand how anyone can read Obama's economics plan and continue with the same misinformed arguments.
What I read is that essentially, he will allow the Bush tax cuts...that only applied to the top 1 or 2% of income levels in any significant way...to expire. Those earning less than $200,000 would see no change in their taxes.
I have heard nothing about "giveaway" programs in his proposals. I have seen a promise to push for education reforms, affordable access to college educations, a proposal for a change in access to health care, etc.
If you believe your taxes will not go up under McCain, you have not read his proposal for health coverage. For the first time in history, McCain is proposing a tax on employer supplied health care benefits. In return he will give a $5000 credit. Since the average health care benefit costs around $12,000, that is a net loss of $7,000. Once again, Republican policy threatens to lower my disposable income even more. No thank you. And this is just one area of Republican policy that would be a continuation of past failed policies.
WOW......You wonna see something that just happened yesterday.....Sarah Palin is an embarrassment, go to ma blog and see 4 your self. She don't even know the world leaders!!!
